Kevin Surace: green building materials manufacturer
Cars are taking too much flak for CO2 emissions explains Kevin Surace, CEO of Serious Materials, as he paces the stage at the 2009 TED (Technology, Entertainment, Design) Conference. He believes that the buildings in which we live and work are the real villains in our war on CO2 – a battle the American entrepreneur has labelled the “third industrial revolution”.
It was this belief that spurred Surace to create an army of people and products with one lofty goal in mind: “to reduce CO2 output by a billion tons per year, three percent of all the CO2 produced by mankind”.’
Building a greener future?
Surace, who was named 2009 Entrepreneur of Year by Inc. Magazine, aims to reduce CO2 emissions through a green alternative to standard dry wall: EcoRock. It is manufactured using recycled cement and steel, and was named ‘Green Product of the Year’ by Popular Science magazine.
According to US President Barrack Obama, Serious Materials is already one of the innovators who create jobs “that will foster recovery and create the technologies that will power long-term prosperity.”
