Bikes
Environmental benefits: In Britain, millions of bikes are thrown away or lie unused in sheds. Reusing bicycles will stop them being sent to landfill.
How to recycle: Re-cycle collect secondhand bicycles and ship them to Africa. Their partners distribute bikes and teach riders the skills to maintain them. Bike Recycling is a directory of all the projects, non-profit businesses, training and rehabilitation schemes and other projects that receive bikes.
If your bike is really beyond repair you can recycle the main metal parts (frame, wheel, chain) at your nearest recycling centre with a mixed metals facility. Make sure you remove any rubber or plastic parts such as tyres, inner tubes, saddles, brakes, plastic lights or bells.
