Thousands take part in the race against climate change

The second EDF Energy Birmingham Half Marathon took place on Sunday 11 October 2009. It was a huge success with over 12,000 runners signed up to the race, and an estimated 60,000 spectators lining the 21km route through Birmingham. EDF Energy is delighted that over 200 employees took part, demonstrating real support for the "race against climate change".

Earlier that day, EDF Energy also sponsored the IAAF/EDF Energy World Half Marathon, which saw some of the world's best athletes coming together to compete on the same route.

Racing for Team Green Britain

Over half of all race entrants joined Team Green Britain. Not only will this help reduce their personal carbon footprints, but it'll also help EDF Energy and Birmingham City Council in their efforts to win accreditation by the Council for Responsible Sport and make the 2009 EDF Energy Birmingham Half Marathon Europe's first certified sustainable race.
